KENNY HILLS BAKERS

TAMAN TUN DR ISMAIL. 2021
A project I worked on during my service in Supereka Design Studio. Started out as a small bakery operating in a neighbourhood within Taman Tunku, this family owned business had opened their new outlet in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, taking over the existing lot which used to be Pappa Rich, situated opposite of the neighbourhood's most prominent supermarket Pasar Besar TTDI.
Upon entering the outlet, the interior welcomes you with rows of pastries, lit up with gold plated and ribbed glass lamps overhanging the glass display. The design strategy strives to touch as little as possible of the existing lot while trying to instil its brand all over the outlet by using loose furniture cabinetry and carpentry to create each spaces that has its own experience. The only major work that was done was the flooring level to split up around the spaces between the service and the dining space. All walls that were left by Pappa Rich were retained but refinished with cement paint for a rustic look. The ceiling is decorated with timber beading to break off the "whiteness" of the ceiling, and the huge volume in the space is filled with pendant lights giving it a glow. The carpentry design of each fixtures were designed with intricate detailing, influenced by the industrial copper and black steel frames look combined with mid century modern furniture to present the pastries in the most aesthetically way possible.

I was mainly in charge of running the project altogether with drawings, designing and detailing of the fixtures carpentry which I worked closely with the carpenter to ensure the quality and aesthetics are achieved through the detailing of the corners and edges of the carpentry work, the right wood tone to be in consistence with the overall look.
