SS2 House, Petaling Jaya

Petaling Jaya. 2022
A residential project during my service in ENDO Sdn Bhd, my contribution was the lead designer in this project.
The design approach seeks transformation of the existing house located within the suburbs of Petaling Jaya originally built in 1970s, with a minimal reconfiguration of existing forms on site while overlaying a sense of privacy and seclusion, by utilising and enhancing the existing greenery context. The house needed a contemporary uplifting which are integrated within the interior, with a reorientation to better connect within the spatial context and to elevate the immersion within the landscape which create a sense of balance between the interior and exterior.
The dialogue between east and west aesthetics are curated in its selection of contemporary meets old peranakan elements from the common space into the back of the house.
The existing house which lacks “openness” leans in dire need to connect to the large garden outside. Accentuating the outdoors is one of the most important elements as part of the design strategy. To achieve this, the front portion of the house is demolished and sensitively re-created whilst the back portion is extended; to make it feel more like a comfortable home for a family that enjoy a communal living space which offer a transition between internal and external zones by creating a vertical ”green lung” courtyard that also provide a visual connection for both floor levels. This would also allow sufficient daylight to penetrate into the house whilst providing a sense of privacy into the space. The midsection of the house is extended to the outdoor terrace area leaving the interior of the house feeling like a part of the outdoor garden.
